The Spokes of Progress — Why We Build, and Who We Build For

The Spokes of Progress

In my last post, I spoke about Nyame Bekyere as a model for durable, self-reliant, and regenerative community development. I shared our vision: to create a sustainable blueprint where business, community, and environment work in harmony.

Today, I want to go deeper. Because behind every building, every initiative, every ribbon-cutting, there’s a purpose far bigger than bricks and mortar.

The Bicycle That Moves Us Forward

I often think of our work like the spokes of a bicycle—those unseen supports that hold everything together and keep us moving forward. Each spoke might seem small, but together, they create motion and momentum.

Our youth are the wheels in motion. They carry the dreams, the resilience, and the energy that propel us forward. But they cannot ride alone.

One spoke is skills training—in our case, leatherwork that transforms into beautiful, durable journals. Another spoke is well-being—mentorship, wellness support, and the simple but profound act of making sure our young people feel seen. A third is market access—helping these creations reach buyers who understand the value of their craft and the story behind it.

When these spokes align, something extraordinary happens. A young person gains a skill, that skill becomes currency—monetary, emotional, cultural—and the community gains strength and visibility.

Healing Is the Goal

The goal is healing.

Yes, we speak the language of entrepreneurship, education, and sustainability. But those are the branches. The root is healing—healing the wounds of disconnection, the scars of silence, the weight of ancestral trauma that so many in the Diaspora carry.

Through the work of Nana One and our projects in Nyame Bekyere, we’re not just building infrastructure—we’re restoring dignity, identity, and connection. Every workshop, every leadership program, every community space is part of this slow, sacred work.

Building a connected Ecosystem

In my first Blog, I said that community development is about shared responsibility—private sector, government, NGOs, all working together. This remains true. But our deeper mission is to ensure every spoke—skills, wellness, market access—is connected to the wheel. Because when one spoke breaks, the whole wheel suffers.

That’s why we are committed to creating pathways, not isolated projects. From making to healing to selling, every part of our model is linked, ensuring that success is shared and sustainable.

This Is Our Collective Work

You don’t need a chieftaincy title to be part of this movement. You don’t even need to live here. You just need intention—to support, amplify, invest, return, learn, and unlearn.

We build because our liberation is a group project.
We build because legacy requires labor.
We build because when one of us rises, we all rise.

Nyame Bekyere is just one mile wide, but it holds an ocean of possibility. With enough hands on the wheel, we can go further than we ever imagined. And as I said before—if you share this vision, we welcome you to join us.

Because in the end, the spokes don’t turn without all of us riding together.

I’ve spoken about my journey in various interviews but never like this. I’ve learned this the hard way: When you don’t tell your own story, people will tell it for you. And they’ll get it wrong. Every single time. I’m done letting that happen.

This is about more than just pride. It’s about ownership. It’s about healing. It’s about showing up fully, in my own words. Because no one can speak for me better than I can. This is just a summary and there is more coming.
